Many
NGOs and Government organizations, in most of the developing countries,
are adopting the implementation of "Safe Water System"(SWS)
which was initially developed by Centers for Disease Control and Prevention,
USA (CDC), UNDP etc. We quote from the Safe Water System Handbook:-
- "The Safe Water System is a water quality intervention that
employs simple, inexpensive and robust technologies appropriate
for the developing world. The strategy is to make water safe through
disinfection and safe storage at the point of use. The basis of
the intervention is:
- point-of-use treatment of contaminated water using sodium
hypochlorite generator purchased locally and produced in the
community from water and salt using an electrolytic cell;
- safe water storage in containers with a narrow mouth, lid,
and a spigot to prevent recontamination;
- behavioral change techniques, including social marketing,
community mobilization, motivational interviewing, communication,
and education, to increase awareness of the link between contaminated
water and disease and the benefits of safe water, and to influence
hygiene behaviors including the purchase and proper use of
the water storage vessel and disinfectant."
- "Field trials of the point-of-use water disinfection and safe
water storage system conducted by CDC in South America, Africa,
and Asia have demonstrated that it is practical, effective, inexpensive,
and a potentially sustainable means to improve water quality and
prevent waterborne diseases:"
You must be aware that all over the world nearly 30,00,000 people
die each year due to waterborne diseases, out of these 19,00,000
are children. Waterborne diseases can be controlled only by point
of use disinfection and proper storage. Sodium Hypochlorite
is the most effective and stable disinfectant used all over the world
to purify drinking water.
The entire Safe Water System Program is based on the availability
of a reliable, economical and easy to use Sodium Hypochlorite Generator
(or Electro Chlorinator). Without a proper and indigenous Electro
Chlorinator the whole program would become very expensive and non-sustainable.
To achieve this affordable sustainability, we have developed Sodium
Hypochlorite Generator, which can produce an effective disinfectant
with the help of Common Salt, Electricity and Water. Our Electro Chlorinator
is manufactured with the latest cell technology to international standards.
These Electrochlorinators are in use in some of the hospitals and railway stations
in India. The most significant aspect here is that we are willing
to offer our Electro Chlorinator at a very low cost.
In the rural area, we have many unemployed youth who can take-up to
production of Sodium Hypochlorite and market it at a very nominal
cost to the other villagers. The cost of the system can be subsidized
by the NGO. This way they can not only make a livelihood but also
contribute to an improved health condition.
We are very keen to cooperate with any organization which is willing
to implement a similar program to improve the water quality and thereby
reduce the occurrence of waterborne diseases.
